Are you a residential property owner in the unincorporated county who is considering annexing into a neighboring city or town? Deciding whether or not it would be beneficial to annex can be a confusing process. There are a number of taxes, fees, and service charges that can change with annexation, and residents may not know how to estimate the financial impact of these changes.

Forward Pinellas believes that property owners should be as informed as possible before making the decision whether or not to annex. The Truth in Annexation worksheet is designed to help you obtain some of this information, by estimating the difference in annual taxes and fees that you would pay before and after annexation.

To complete the Truth in Annexation worksheet, you’ll need to know the taxable value of your property, whether you have a homestead exemption, and your taxing district. You can find this information on the Pinellas County Property Appraiser’s Office website, by selecting Search Our Database and entering your name or address to find your property.

You’ll need to know whether your property is located in a special district, and whether you pay any additional costs for stormwater or garbage pickup with your property tax bill. You can find that information on the Pinellas County Tax Collector website, and entering your name or address to find your bill.

You’ll need the amount of electricity you use in an average month, in kilowatt-hours (kWh). This information can be found on your electric bill.

You’ll need to know your potable (drinking) water and sewer district, and how much you pay for them each month.

Lastly, you’ll need to know the estimated amount you pay monthly for your phone, cable TV, and internet access, garbage pickup, and stormwater. That information will also be shown on the bills you receive for those services.
